The South African Police Service in Sekhukhune District arrested two illegal miners, aged 20 and 35, during a disruptive operation conducted on Wednesday, 21 June 2033 at around 08:00, in Mooihoek Mountain, next to the old shaft Black Chrome at Driekop policing area.

The operation comprised of members from the Provincial Illegal Mining Task Team, Sekhukhune District, Tubatse, Meckleburg Burgersfort and other local stations focusing on illegal mining at the area.

The Operational members proceeded to the old shaft at Black Chrome following information received and managed to arrest two suspects while other illegal minors managed to evade arrest when they have fled into different directions upon noticing the Police.

During the arrest, Police confiscated 23 generators and five Jack hammers.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe applauded the operational team for arresting the suspects and for continuing to show their commitment of protecting the minerals of this Province.

The suspects will appear before Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of illegal mining and contravention of the Immigration Act.

The Police investigations are still continuing.
