The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest of four suspects in Driekop outside Burgersfort alleged to have been involved in illegal mining operations and seizure of mining equipment.

A multi-disciplinary team consisting of Crime Prevention Unit, detectives, Public Order Policing and Organised Crime Investigation followed up on information and executed an operation on the Mooihoek Mountain.

The four suspects were found mining chrome and various other exhibits were found at the scene.

“We commend the collaboration between the police and community for the successful bust of such serious criminal operation. We are confident that the arrested suspects will face the full might of the law, said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The suspects aged between 19 and 37 will appear before the Mecklenburg Magistrates’ Court on Friday 11 November 2022 facing charges of illegal mining.

Police investigations are still continuing.
