Police are investigating two counts of murder and one of attempted murder following a violent attack at the Namakgale Shopping Complex on Sunday, 28 September 2025. The incident, which police believe was domestic in nature, left a husband and wife dead and a store manager injured.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, police were alerted to a shooting inside a retail wholesaler at approximately 17:16. Upon arrival, officers discovered three individuals with visible injuries lying in a pool of blood.
Preliminary reports indicate that the tragedy unfolded when a 45-year-old man followed his 40-year-old wife into the store. The woman, in an attempt to escape, hid inside the establishment. The suspect, armed with a firearm, pursued her.
The victim sought refuge in the shop manager’s office. The suspect, however, fired two shots through the office door, injuring the female manager inside. He then forced his way in, dragged his wife out, stabbed her several times, and fatally shot her.
The suspect subsequently turned the firearm on himself and died at the scene.
Police have confirmed that the firearm used in the incident was unlicensed and had its serial number filed off. Evidence collected at the scene included spent cartridges, projectiles, the firearm itself, and a knife.
The injured store manager was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. The identities of the deceased will be released once their next of kin have been notified.
“The motive behind this incident is believed to be domestic-related, and police investigations are continuing,” a police statement read. Authorities are appealing to anyone with further information to come forward.
