The South African Police Service in Masemola outside Lebowakgomo have arrested a 19 year old suspect in connection with murder, assault and arson that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning 5 March 2019.

It is alleged that the suspect went to his girlfriend’s house for a visit around midnight. On arrival, a conflict ensued between the couple during which the suspect stabbed the woman with a sharp object and thereafter set the girlfriend’s family house alight before he fled the scene.

The victim and her mother managed to escape the blaze but the couple’s two month old baby was burned to death. The victim is admitted in hospital for medical treatment with serious stab wounds. The suspect was arrested and will appear before a magistrate’s court soon.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned the domestic related incidents which are still prevalent in some areas of the province with the strongest terms.

Members of the community are advised to consult with their local professionals for intervention when they are having any domestic related problem rather than resorting to violence or killings.

The Police investigations are still continuing.
