Daring escape of 6 prisoners in Limpopo - FF Plus requests investigation

The circumstances surrounding a violent attack on police members during which six prisoners awaiting trial in Limpopo escaped must urgently be investigated.

According to reports, a group of heavily armed suspects attacked a police vehicle near the first Schoemansdal turn-off outside Louis Trichardt.

The police members transporting the prisoners were shot at.

Two police members were seriously wounded.

The prisoners escaped during the incident.

What is particularly alarming is that the farmers and members of the local neighbourhood watch in Musina, who initially cooperated with the police to apprehend the criminals, may now be targeted.

The FF Plus expects the provincial government to strongly condemn violent crime in Limpopo, and undertake to thoroughly investigate the matter to apprehend the perpetrators.

Measures to prevent such incidents ought to be in place.

The FF Plus will apply pressure to ensure that any possible irregularities relating to the escape are brought to light.
