Crime expert Calvin Rafadi has provided chilling insights into the kidnapping and murder of journalist Sibusiso Ndlovu and his partner, Zodwa Mdhluli, who went missing in February. Speaking in a televised interview, Rafadi detailed the investigation that led to the arrest of multiple suspects, with two still at large.
Key Findings in the Case
Rafadi, part of a private investigative team assisting the family, revealed that the primary suspect—a taxi driver known to the victims—allegedly orchestrated the crime to steal the couple’s car and savings. The suspects, described as heavily armed and involved in drugs, later destroyed evidence, including the victims’ phones.
Police recovered the victims’ bodies after the suspects led authorities to the dumping site. Rafadi warned the public against approaching the remaining fugitives, emphasizing their dangerous nature.
Broader Kidnapping Crisis
The discussion expanded to South Africa’s alarming kidnapping trends, with Rafadi citing police data showing over 17,968 missing persons reunited in five years—yet thousands remain unaccounted for. He highlighted the rise in ransom kidnappings, particularly targeting business owners, and criticized bureaucratic delays in police responses.
Rafadi urged communities to take precautions, including monitoring children’s movements and limiting social media exposure. He called for real-time tracking reforms to combat kidnappings more effectively.
As investigations continue, the case underscores the urgent need for improved policing and public vigilance in tackling violent crime.
