Kidnapping - couple arrested for perjury

A 29 year old taxi driver and his 31 year old girlfriend from Jerusalem Village in the the Monsterlus area in the Hologotlou Policing precinct, outside Groblersdal were arrested for faking a kidnapping incident.

It is alleged that on 26 June 2017 at about 05:30, the taxi driver went to his girlfriend’s home and told her to inform his boss (taxi owner) that he has been kidnapped by unknown men driving in three vehicles without registration numbers and the girlfriend did so and she later opened a kidnaping case at Hlogotlou police station on the same day.

The Police Detectives started their initial investigations immediately and subsequently, the taxi driver was found hiding inside this girlfriend’s house and they were both arrested.
The motive behind this false case is still not clear but the preliminary investigations by the Police have revealed that the taxi driver has failed to submit the money he collected for some days to the taxi owner.
The suspects will appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on 30 June 2017.
The Police investigations are still continuing.

The South African Police Service would like to condemn this tendency in the strongest terms.
We are going to leave no stone unturned on this matter until justice prevails on both the arrested suspects and members of the Community are warned to refrain from this irresponsible acts.
