The completely bankrupt municipality of Fetakgomo Tubatse made the foolish decision to dismiss an existing contractor who asked R500,000 to wire homes for electricity. Instead of using this existing company, a new contract was accepted where Eskom would do the job at a huge R9.8 million.
Patience Busane, the controversial municipal manager, decided to appoint Eskom and to dismiss the contractors who received the tender without following the proper procedures and channels.
The initial contractor had only done part of the work, and the Limpopo bankrupt municipality ended up deeper in the hole of bankruptcy with Eskom’s appointment.
