The South African Police Service welcomes the conviction and subsequent sentencing of Aretse Nkabang Moraba for the murder of a police Constable in 2016.
Moraba shot and killed 33-year-old Constable Kekana Pule Edward on Tuesday, 19 April 2016 at around 01:00. The deceased member was with other police officials, tracing the accused for armed robberies when the accused opened fire from inside a house at Ga-Mogashoa. The police member died on the way to hospital.
The following sentences were handed down by the Polokwane High court:
Count 1 Murder – 18 years.
Count 5 and 6 Armed robberies – 30 years.
Count 8 and 9 Possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition – 6 years and 3 years respectively.
Count 8 and 9 will run concurrently with count 1.
He was sentenced to a total of 48 years imprisonment.
