A well-organized network of people who have decided that crime is not going to happen is the reason that two suspected robbers were quickly behind bars this week.

The Community Policing Forum (CPF) sector 2 and 3 in Modimolle, on Tuesday, July 12, just before 05:00 informed the police that four armed men on foot were on the run after the Engen Kranskopl garage on N1 robbed.

Several units of Modimolle police and CPF members searched the area between the N1 and Eersbewoond.

According to Barend, chairperson of the CPF sector 3, they tracked the alleged robbers’ near Shangri-La Country Hotel’s grounds on the way to Grayling pig farm on the R101 Bela-Bela Road.

“The CPF has closed a portion of the R101 road and early in the morning following the suspects tracks. Involved in the search was members of Bela-Bela sector 1 and their neighborhood watch, who also helped.

Barend said that while driving back to Bela-Bela, their communications network reported that the description of the vehicle in which two of the suspects were driving was spotted.

“Barely 2 km away, a car and a van drove past me. I turned around, and the car on the way to Bela-Bela was forced to stop, and the suspects were arrested,” he said.
The men were identified by their shoes which corresponded with the tracks that we had followed. This happened at approximately 11:30, and put an end to a hectic morning for about 50 helpers, searching through the open land

Lt. Col. Moatshe Ngoepe, the Limpopo police spokesman, said the two suspects are allegedly part of a syndicate that has plagued motorists and residents on the N1. He said the two apparently were given a lift, and they held up and robbed the driver with a weapon.

The police Mahwelereng outside Mokopane caught a syndicate of eight men on Monday, July 11, and ended a reign of terror in that area and conducted on the N1.

Further investigation found that two of the suspects were part of the group awaiting trial at the Modimolle police holding cells escaped on Tuesday, 15 March. The suspects are linked to a series of hijackings and armed robberies.
