A group of armed men ambushed a G4 Security guards and took an undisclosed amount of cash in a brazen cash-in-transit robbery near Tzaneen, Limpopo police said on Tuesday.

Police spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said three guards were attacked by 17 armed men while transporting cash along Gravelott Road on Monday.

“Five vehicles pulled them off the road and started shooting the vehicle all round. They blew the safe and robbed them of an undisclosed amount of money,” said Ngoepe.

ER24 Spokesperson Chitra Bodasing Harduth said after the attack the injured guards were assessed and paramedics found that one had been shot and had also sustained shrapnel injuries. Another guard also sustained shrapnel injuries.

“They were treated and transported to hospital for further medical care. The third guard had no visible signs of injury but was taken to hospital for assessment as a precaution,” said Bodasing Harduth.

No arrests have been made.
