Three suspects were arrested after a foiled Cash-in-Transit robbery in Jane Furse outside Lebowakgomo yesterday, 03 December 2016. Several other suspects fled and managed to evade arrest.

An AK 47 assault rifle with one magazine and 8 rounds of ammunition, a 9mm pistol and a hijacked vehicle were confiscated. The vehicle was hijacked earlier at Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.

Members of the Tracking Team and TRT acted on intelligence driven information about a possible CIT robbery in the Jane Furse area. The necessary deployments including a police helicopter were put in place. Members spotted the suspected vehicle and attempted to stop it. The suspects started shooting at Police members. The members returned fire, injuring two suspects and arresting them. They were taken to hospital. A third suspect later handed himself over at Polokwane Police Station. No police members were injured.

One of the suspects was out on bail for a kidnapping case at Westernberg outside Polokwane as well as an attempted murder case. Another suspect is connected to several cases of hijackings.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, commended the members for sterling work. He thanked community members for assisting the Police in foiling these crimes and urged them to continue doing so in order to rid the Province of any form of criminality.

The arrested suspects will be charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of illegal firearms and ammunition. More arrests are expected.
