South African Police Service

The Police in Malamulele near Giyani are investigating two counts of inquest which occurred on 25 February 2018, after a car was swept away by heavy floods.

It is alleged that at about 18:40 at Roadhuis village, the two deceased aged 46 and 64 years old from Mwadzekudzeku village outside Giyani were traveling with a bakkie and while crossing a stream full of water along Roadhuis gravel road ,their vehicle was swept away.

The Police were summoned, reacted immediately and the search operation by the Police Search and Rescue Unit ensued until a female passenger’s body was retrieved but the driver’s body and the car went deeper.

The search operation for the driver and the car continued until this morning on 26 February 2018, when they were successfully retrieved from the water.

The Police investigations are still continuing.

The South African Police Service is once more appealing to members of the community to be extra cautious when crossing and swimming in dams, streams and rivers because of the heavy rainfall which is still being experienced in most parts of the Province to prevent and avoid this type of incidents from occurring.
