Burgersfort ‘road freight roadblock’ operation nets 26 suspects

The South African Police Service in Limpopo arrested 26 suspects aged between 19 and 45 for cases ranging from contravention of the Immigration Act to possession of illicit cigarettes during a road freight operation on Friday, 12 May 2023.

The operation was conducted by the provincial and local team of police operatives in conjunction with the freight Industry along the R555 road in Sekhukhune, Burgersfort policing area.

The operation was aimed at ensuring the safety of the road users and residents in the area.

A total of 22 suspects were arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act, one for contravention of the Second Hand Goods Act, one J 534 summon issued, two for possession of Illicit cigarettes, one for illegal Gambling and the other for contravention of the Road Traffic Act.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the arrests and encouraged the Police to continue working tirelessly.

The arrested suspects will soon appear before the local Magistrate’s Court.
