The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation has arrested a 30 year old man for attempting to bribe one of its investigators on Thursday, 9 May 2019.

The suspect allegedly approached a detective attached to the Hawks in Thohoyandou and offered to pay him a R2000 bribe in order not to oppose bail against his brother who was arrested for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

The member played along and a sting operation was conducted which resulted in the suspect being arrested shortly after he paid the said bribe. The suspect appeared at the Thohoyandou Magistrates’ Court today for corruption charges.

The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Major General Thobeka Jozi hailed the member for the arrest.

“It is absolutely encouraging that we have incorruptible officers in our ranks, who refuses to let temptations derail their constitutional given mandate”. She said.
