The Police in Thohoyandou have arrested a 35-year-old suspect for the murder of a 34-year-old woman, Fhatuwani Nguluvhe, who was reported missing on 6 March 2023.

The woman went missing while she was at Thavhani Mall, Thohoyandou in the Vhembe District. All efforts to locate her were unsuccessful, thus prompting the family to report her missing at Thohoyadou SAPS.

A search operation for the woman was embarked upon. Following meticulous investigation conducted by the dedicated team of Thohoyandou Detectives and Provincial Missing Persons Task Team, the suspect was subsequently identified, interviewed and subsequently nabbed on Wednesday 22 March 2023 at about 21:00 while at his residence in Tshikweta village.

The suspect was allegedly found in possession of the bank cards belonging to the reported missing woman.

The team conducted further investigation and ultimately the body of the deceased was found along the R524 Phunda Maria road next to Maniini village, already in advanced state of decomposition.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned this incident of Gender Based Violence and has commended the members for sterling investigations that led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the body of the deceased.

The motive of the murder is unknown at this stage and police investigations are currently ongoing.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate court soon.
