On Monday, July 25, two unexpected candidates, were seated behind the desks at a Nylstroom school.
The popular Afrikaans singers, Bobby and Karlien van Jaarsveld, along with learners of the Abraham Kriel orphanage reported to the school – all dressed in school uniforms.
The brother and sister are working on a project which at this stage they do not want to expand on, but they promised to tell their fans about it in November this year. Bobby has been a patron of the children’s home for many years.
For this project, they spent two days with the children of the orphanage. Karlien has been involved in House Protea and Bobby at House Soetdoring, where they required to spend their time as students. They also slept at the school for two nights.
“I shared a room with Gerhard and John. The boys received me with open arms and posted letters on the walls to welcome me.”You have preconceived ideas, but these children are like a bunch of brothers together. They are all silly, fight with each other and stand together rather than get into trouble. I felt at home, “said an enthusiastic Bobby.
Karlien said the girls in House Protea quickly showed her the ropes. It was down with the makeup and no painted nails and Hush; now it’s bedtime. “They went to the breakfast table giggling because I kept breaking the rules after the matron said we should stop talking,” said Karlien with a smile.
The girls also scrambled to gather a set of school uniforms for the very petite Karlien. Karlien typically wears gowns by famous designers and [spykerhakke].
