A woman has been assaulted and numerous firearms and cash robbed at a lodge in the Hoedspruit area. The attack occurred during the early hours of Friday morning 27 April 2018.

A police spokesperson LT Col Moatshe Ngoepe, confirmed the attack took place at 02:00.

Two armed assailants overpowered a security guard and held him at gunpoint. He was instructed to phone the owner and say that there was leopard at the lodge. When the owner arrived, he too was overpowered and forced into the house where they demanded the keys to the safe.

Five hunting rifles and a revolver were stolen. An undisclosed amount of money in dollars and rands was also taken.

The owners wife was assauted with the but of a firearm by two other suspects who then tied her, three security guards and three workers up before fleeing in the owners vehicle a shot was fired by the attackers.

The vehicle was later recovered near Acornhoek in Mpumalanga.
