As the festive season is in its peak period, the police are also intensifying the fight against various crimes, including trio crimes in making sure that the communities are and feel safe.

In Malamulele outside Giyani, the Police have successfully intercepted a group of armed criminals who were en route to commit a business robbery on Thursday morning 21 December 2017.

Members of the tactical Intelligence led joint operation composed of the Thohoyandou Crime Intelligence Unit and Visible Policing were acting on a tip off when they followed these suspects and along the way, they tried to pull them off the road but the suspects did not cooperate and subsequently a cross fire ensued.

During this shoot out one suspect aged 34 was fatally shot and his two accomplices aged 23 and 27 years old were subsequently arrested. The fourth suspect managed to evade arrest.

The following items were recovered during this incident, 1 x 9mm firearm, 8 x live rounds of ammunition, 2 x cell phones and 10 x cable ties.

The arrested suspects will appear before Malamulele Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and possession of firearm and ammunition without licence and are still being profiled with a possibility to link them with similar trio crimes in and around the Thohoyandou and Giyani Clusters.

The Police investigations are still continuing.
