Another 11 traffic officers arrested, total now 33

The latest arrests brings the total number of traffic officers arrested in the province to 33 since December 2017.

According to provincial Hawks spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke, an intelligence driven operation between the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Crime unit and Road Traffic Management Corporation, to rid the province of corrupt officials, continued as eleven traffic officers were arrested in Mokopane for alleged corruption.

This comes a week after 10 traffic officials were arrested in Polokwane for fraud and corruption.

“The officers, between the ages of 32 and 54 years old, were arrested following ongoing investigations related to soliciting bribes from motorists,” Maluleke said.

The latest arrests brings the total number of traffic officers arrested in the province to 33 since December 2017.

The suspects are expected to appear before Mokopane Magistrate Court on Wednesday, to face corruption charges.

Maluleke says the operation and investigations will continue.
