The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned in the strongest possible terms the actions of a group of community members who on the night of 2 February 2021, launched an attack on Masisi police station, throwing stones and in the process, breaking some of the windows. This after the arrest of 19 suspects following the brutal murder of four people at Mutele village on Monday, 1 February 2021.

The angry crowd came to the police station, demanding the release of the suspects. They then started throwing stones and damaged two windows. The Public Order Police members were called to assist the local police and had to use rubber bullets to repel the crowd. One suspect was arrested for Public Violence and Malicious Damage to Property. More arrests are expected.

“We condemn this violence that is clearly aimed at bringing about lawlessness in the area. The police will be relentless in hunting down all those who participated in this violence. Community members are urged to assist the police in searching for the missing man and must desist from taking the law into their own hands,” concluded General Ledwaba.

Meanwhile, the 19 suspects arrested on Monday will appear in Musina Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 4 February 2021, facing charges of four counts of murder, arson and malicious damage to property.
