An inquest case is being investigated at Malamulele Police Station following the death of a toddler

A case of an inquest is being investigated by the Malamulele police under Vhembe District following the untimely death of a toddler at Xigalo village on Friday 24 May 2024 at about 16:00.

Police received a complaint about a child who fell inside a dustbin that contained water and rushed to the vicinity. On arrival police found the lifeless body of a one year and eight months old baby girl lying on the floor inside the house.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the brother of the deceased arrived at home at around 15:00 and at that time the mother was busy with other chores.

After a few minutes the mother and other family members noticed that the toddler is nowhere to be found. They looked around and found the victim inside the dustbin that was full of water and pulled her outside while showing no signs of life. The EMS personnel were summoned to the scene and on arrival they declared the toddler dead.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe is pleading with the parents and guardians of the children to always be vigilant and alert about their safety at all times.

Police investigations are continuing.
