The members of SAPS Mopani Tracking team made a major breakthrough in arresting a highly wanted alleged serial rapist aged 32, on Friday, 12 January 2024.

The preliminary police investigations have revealed that the suspect is linked to three separate rape incidents which took place in the Letsitele policing area between the year 2023 and 2024.

His reign of terror started in February 2023, followed by several other women who were raped in the area by the alleged suspect. Subsequent to extensive investigation, the suspect was linked with three cases of rape. The team acted on positive information and with assistance from an off-duty TRT member as well as Flying Squad, the suspect was traced and arrested at Mahlomeni village.

Further investigations are underway to possibly link the suspect with similar cases.

The suspect will appear before the local Magistrates’ Court in Letsitele in due course, on three cases of rape.

“We believe we got the right person, and of the view, this arrest will help us to resolve many cases in and around the area of Letsitele. The tireless and persistent work by the teams involved is highly appreciated.” concluded Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe

Police investigations are still continuing.
