A 33-year-old man incarcerated to 30 years’ imprisonment for raping a minor girl child

The Regional Court in Thabazimbi has ordered a lengthy jail sentence of 30 years’ to a rapist, aged 33, on Thursday, 14 March 2024.

In this matter, it was found that on 20 January 2022, at about 14:30, the accused, who was a tenant at the victim’s residence, raped her daughter while she was still at work. The victim, aged 13, informed her mother telephonically following the ordeal. Her mother quickly rushed home.

The incident was reported to the police and a rape case was registered against the accused at the police station. The docket was transferred to Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit at Thabazimbi, and it was investigated by Warrant Officer Daniel Joseph Lotter.

The suspect was later arrested for rape.

Following trial appearances, the accused William Kgankge Sekete (33) was sentenced to 30 years’ in prison, and declared unfit to possess a firearm, and his name will be recorded in the National Register for Sex Offenders.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the final decision by the court and applauded the investigating officer and the arresting team for the job well done.
