The operational strategies by the police in Limpopo continue to achieve meaningful results through the simultaneous joint intelligence led operations.

A total of 890 suspects aged between 22 and 51 were arrested for various offences with police seizing properties such as firearms, motor vehicles and various types of drugs.

These operations were up and running in all the Clusters until the early hours of today on 2018-10-22 and were conducted through road blocks, stop and searches, tracing of wanted suspects and patrols in the CBD’s and in rural / farming areas with the aim of dealing with serious crimes within the cluster’s hot-spot areas head-on.

In the Groblersdal Cluster, the joint operation was conducted around the Dennilton Policing precinct and the following successes were achieved: 158 motor vehicles were searched, 38 motor vehicles were tested, 586 persons were searched, and 18 road Traffic fines were issued.

In the Thohoyandou Cluster, the operation led by the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Jim Ledwaba and the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for the HRM Major General Christine Moralakadi accompanied by the Cluster Commander achieved the following successes: 40 people arrested for drinking in public, 16 for contravening the road Traffic ordinance, 19 undocumented persons, 05 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 07 for failing to comply with Liquor Act.

Meanwhile, in the Bela-Bela Cluster, the operation focussed on a number of areas including the crime generators such as alcohol and drug abuse. The following successes were achieved : 19 people arrested for drinking in public, 08 undocumented persons arrested, 07 people arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol , possession of dangerous weapon, non-compliance of Liquor Act and one tavern was also closed down. In this operation, a total of 387 persons were searched, 27 motor vehicles were searched, 12 Liquor premises were inspected for compliance.

The suspects arrested during these operations were arrested for various offences ranging from Illegal Immigration Act, murder, attempted murder, rape, armed robbery, burglary residence and business, business robbery, possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle, assault, carjacking, Road Traffic Act related offenses, possession of drugs and possession of suspected stolen property.

The following items were recovered:

* 12 motor vehicles.
* 14 firearms, 21 rounds of ammunition and two (02) magazines.
* Six (06) Plasma TV’s.
* Six (06) cell phones.
* Four (04) laptops.
* 156 sachets of cat, nyaope, cocaine, and crystal meth drugs.

A total cash amount of R15 000, electrical appliances, clothing, music equipment, electric cables, grinders, air time vouchers and knives were also confiscated. The estimated value of the recovered items including motor vehicles is about R3 Million.

The arrested suspects have already started to appear before the various Magistrate’s Courts across the province while others are yet to appear.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has applauded the Police Officials and other role players who worked tirelessly in the apprehension of these suspects.

Similar operations are still to be rolled-out throughout the province aiming to uproot all criminal activities and to ensure a safer environment for our communities, concluded General Ledwaba.
