8 arrested for murdering police officer in Giyani

Giyani SAPS arrested a total of eight (8) suspects in connection with the murder of a Constable following a business robbery in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Information was received that five of the suspects boarded a taxi that was destined to Polokwane. The necessary police units, including members of crime intelligence were activated. The five were subsequently nabbed at Solomondale – Polokwane intersection after the police stopped the taxi matching the same description.

Two suspects were arrested earlier with the help of community members in Giyani and the other one was nabbed immediately after the shootout.

These arrests follow an incident in which Constable Thulani Vincent Rali Mhangwani, aged 38, was shot and killed during an exchange of fire between the suspects and the police. The deceased was attached to Giyani crime prevention unit.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has commended the swift action by members which resulted in the apprehension of the suspects.

All the arrested suspects, whose ages range between 26 and 30, will soon appear in Giyani Magistrate Court on charges of murder, robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms.
