The collaborative efforts by members of the South African Police Service in Tubatse outside Burgersfort, led to the arrest of seven suspects aged between 29 and 40. The suspects were arrested in the early hours of 14 October 2019, at about 02:30, and are suspected to be responsible for a business robbery that was perpetrated on the night of 13 October 2019, in the Mecklenburg policing area.

Members attached to Visible Policing and Crime Prevention Unit were performing their normal patrol duties along the R37 road and Mashamothane area when they allegedly came across a suspicious Toyota Quantum. The members tried to stop the vehicle but the suspects sped off and a car chase ensued.

The suspects were cornered at Mashamothane Moshate Cross and arrested. One of the suspects managed to evade arrest when he fled on foot.

The following items were recovered during the arrests:

One 9mm firearm
4 Excavator teeth
1 blue 3HP 200LT compressor
4 cell phones
1 White Toyota Quantum

The suspects might be linked to other serious crimes in the Burgersfort Cluster.

The origin of the recovered items will still be determined through the ongoing police investigations.

The suspects will appear in the Praktiseer Magistrates Court soon on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of suspected stolen property and in the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of business robbery.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has commended the members involved for their sterling crime fighting efforts as these arrests will go a long way in ridding this province of criminality.

More suspects might be involved in this matter and a Police manhunt is underway. Anyone with information that can lead to more arrests should contact Colonel Mahlathini Ngele on 082 573 3645 or the Crime Stop number on 0860010111 or the nearest police station.
