541 suspects arrested for serious crimes, four vehicles, and nine firearms seized during Operation Shanela

The Police in Limpopo arrested 541 suspects during the high-density operation Shanela (Kukula) conducted between Monday, 30 December 2024 and Sunday, 05 January 2025, across five Districts in Limpopo Province.

The suspects were arrested for various crimes including murder, robbery, assault, rape, carjacking, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen property and contravention of Immigration Act.

The operational members managed to seize nine unlicensed firearms, two hundred and nineteen live ammunitions, four stolen vehicles and thirty-three suspects were arrested for driving while under the drugs and alcohol.

These operations were executed through activities, including stop-and-search procedures, roadblocks, the tracing of wanted suspects, and the raiding of liquor premises.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has applauded all the members of the multi-disciplinary forces who participated in the operations and ensuring that law abiding citizens of this province are and feel safe during the Festive Season.
