The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the members for their successful operations over the weekend which resulted in the recovery of stolen as well as hijacked motor vehicles and the arrest of the suspects over the weekend.

The Police in Bandelierkop outside Makhado have arrested a 33-year-old male suspect and recovered a suspected hijacked truck Scania on Thursday, 15 December 2022.

The Police acted swiftly on the information received from a tracking company about a truck Scania that was reported hijacked in Johannesburg as it was traveling from Polokwane along N1 freeway to Makhdo.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck Scania with a head and two trailers was fully loaded with a cargo of cooking oil was reported hijacked at Johannesburg Central SAPS in Gauteng which it belongs to Transport Company.

In addition to that the Police in Bandelierkop recovered another motor vehicle Toyota Raider on Friday 16 December 2022 in Mundzhedzi village following the report received from the victim of an alleged carjacking without the suspect.

In another successful operation the Police in Marble Hall recovered a stolen motor vehicle on a roadblock that was reported stolen in Benoni SAPS in Gauteng and arrested a male suspect.

Two illegal immigrants were also arrested for Contravention of Immigration Act, two other suspects nabbed for being in possession of dangerous weapons and crystal meth drugs in Thohoyandou Policing area. During their arrest the police have confiscated fourteen sachets of crystal meth drugs, one knife and a Golf stick.

Police received information about a hijacked white Polo motor vehicle in Thohoyandou CBD and immediately started with the search and subsequently managed to recover the motor vehicle a white Volkswagen Polo at Mavhunda village with no suspects.

The vehicle was found with a bullet hole on the right door and the driver’s window was smashed.

In a separate incident, one male suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm during the stop and search patrol conducted in Thohoyandou. A white Nissan bakkie was stopped and searched and Police found one firearm hidden inside the motor vehicle and was found with its serial number filled off without magazine nor ammunitions and it is further alleged that this suspect was out on bail for murder.

It is alleged that a 37-year-old male victim was robbed of his motor vehicle Mercedes Benz at gun point by four unknown male suspects in Motsoni village on Friday 16 December 2022 and subsequently the Police recovered it, and arrested one male suspect on Saturday 17 December 2022 in Acornhoek Policing precinct while other three suspects invaded the arrest.

The suspects arrested during the operations are expected to appear before various courts on Monday 19 December 2022, facing charges of unlawful possession of firearms, possession of dangerous weapons, possession of drugs, theft of motor vehicles and contravention of Immigration Act.

Police investigations are continuing.
