The crime intelligence led operation that was conducted at Ntsoaneng village from Tuesday evening 16 January 2018,until 03h00 on Wednesday morning 17 January 2018, led to the arrest of five more suspects aged between 23 and 51.

These arrests bring to nine the number of suspects arrested after the local community went on the rampage on Sunday afternoon 14 January 2018 and torched four houses belonging to people they suspected to be allegedly responsible for the death of an 18 year old Lesedi Malatji.

She died in December last year but the circumstances of her death was never reported to the police. One of the arrested suspect is considered to be an instigator.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has commended all members involved for spending sleepless night to ensure that justice prevails.

“The arrest of these suspects will send a strong message that any acts of vigilantism will not be tolerated”, said General Ledwaba.

All nine suspects are expected to appear before Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court.
