LIMPOPO – A 49-year-old father has been arrested in Ritavi, Mopani District, for the alleged rape of his 16-year-old daughter, marking a significant development in local law enforcement’s response to gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).

The case came to light in May 2026 when a church member approached a local pastor in Mokgolobotho Village. The mother reported growing concerns that her husband was sharing a bed with their teenage daughter, allegedly under the pretext of helping her with schoolwork.

Following this disclosure, the pastor intervened and spoke directly with the teenager. The 16-year-old victim revealed that her father had been sexually abusing her over an extended period. She further disclosed that the most recent alleged incident occurred on 27 July 2026 at approximately 17:00. The matter was formally reported to the police on 30 July 2026.

Upon receiving the report, authorities immediately arranged for the victim to undergo a comprehensive medical examination. Law enforcement officials swiftly traced and apprehended the 49-year-old suspect. The case is currently being investigated by members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit based in Tzaneen.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, publicly welcomed the apprehension of the suspect. Addressing the severity of the crime, Lieutenant General Scheepers stated, “No child should ever have to endure abuse in the very home that is meant to protect her. This arrest sends a clear message that those who prey on children, even within their own families, will be found and will face the full might of the law.”

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to prioritize the protection of vulnerable minors and the prosecution of gender-based violence offenses.
