40 Year sentence for rape of two teenage girls, Giyani

The South African Police Service in Limpopo continue to enjoy the long jail terms imposed by various courts across the Province.

This became evident when Theophelus Baloyi aged 27, from Ribungwani Village in the Hlanganani policing area outside Giyani, was sentenced by the Giyani Magistrate’s Court, to an effective twenty (20) years imprisonment without fine for each rape case bring the total of forty (40) years imprisonment.

The accused started raping the victims from 27 April 2014, in this area until he was apprehended during 2016. He raped a 14 year old girl during 2014 and later raped another 17 year old during 2016.

These incidents were reported to the police and the cases were then assigned to Detective Constable Mabunda attached to the SAPS Giyani Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit who started with investigations that led to the arrest of this accused and his subsequent sentencing.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba welcomed the sentence on both and he also commended the investigating officer who worked tirelessly until this criminal is removed from the society for a long time.
