The police in Mecklenburg have arrested four suspects, aged between 17 and 55 in connection with the torching of houses at Ntsoaneng village on Sunday 14 January 2018.

This destruction of property was sparked by the death of an 18 year old Lesedi Malatji who died in December last year.

Some community members suspected that the deceased was poisoned by one of victims whose house was burnt. Four families have since been displaced from their homes at the village.

Seventeen members from three of the four families that have been displaced, have been temporarily accommodated at the local police station.

The arrested suspects include the 55 year old father of the deceased. The suspects will appear in Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of Public Violence and Arson.

More arrests are expected.
