Police in Thohoyandou have opened a rape case following an alleged gang-rape that took place in Thohoyandou on Saturday evening, 24 February 2024 at about 23:30.

According to the information, the victim was with a group of friends returning from a tavern in Thohoyandou CBD when they were approached by three suspects, threatening them with knives. The victims ran towards different directions. Unfortunately, the trio caught the 28-year-old and forcibly took her to the bushes near Thulamela taxi rank, where they all raped her. They then fled the scene.

The suspects are unknown, and police have opened three counts of rape.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident and ordered a team of Investigators to track down suspects and arrest them. “We cannot allow individuals to subject our women to any form of humiliation and abuse.
