Two Home Affairs officials aged 41 and 44 have on 24 December 2020, appeared in Tzaneen magistrate court for alleged corrupt activities. This after they were arrested following a complaint that was laid against them by a foreign national at Tzaneen police station.
It is alleged that the duo constantly demanded money, which now reportedly runs into several thousands of rands, from this foreign national every time he wanted his documents fixed. He then apparently became tired and decided to report the two officials.
A case of corruption was opened and the Anti-Corruption Unit immediately activated who thereafter apprehended the suspects.
The suspects, identified as Vuyeya Rikhotso 41 and Patricia Mgimeti 44 were remanded in custody until 29 December 2020 for formal bail application.
Police investigations are still continuing.
