The high-density weekly Operation Kukula (Shanela) remains focused in clamping down on crime across Limpopo Province following the arrest of 1302 suspects from Monday 25 September until 01 October 2023.

The operational teams across the Province conducted numerous actions, which include 46 roadblocks, 54 liquor control operations, 172 crime prevention duties, 105 compliance inspections at Second Hand Goods Dealers and 1586 Compliance inspections at liquor premises, 500 spaza/Tuck shops searched and 443 awareness campaigns conducted, among others.

The suspects were apprehended for crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, rape, drug related crimes, burglaries, robberies, arson, unlawful possession of firearms, assaults, to rapes and sexual assaults. Furthermore, 225 undocumented persons were nabbed for contravening the Immigration Act.

In addition, Police’ confiscated 400788 counterfeit cigarette sticks, 24 dangerous weapons, 5132,4 grams of dagga, 902 grams of Crystal Meth, 319,9 grams of Heroin, 1000 grams of Methcathinone and nine stolen motor vehicles. A total number of 1118 road traffic fines were issued and 22 Shebeens closed down.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the successful operations which highlights the efforts of men and women in blue, the objectives achieved as well as the impact of public safety.

Some of the suspects have already started to appear before their respective Magistrate’s Courts across the province.
