KZN officer executed in field, partner shot and critical

Two police officers were disarmed while serving a protection order in Inanda before they were forced into the back of their police van, driven to a field and shot multiple times.

A male officer, who has not yet been named, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died in the open veld near the Inanda Police Station.

His partner, a woman, also sustained several gunshot wounds to the chest and was airlifted to a Durban hospital by paramedics, where she remains in a critical condition. Her uniform and gun was stolen.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane confirmed that the officers had been serving a protection order on a man in Inanda.

He said that the two were overpowered and stripped of their weapons and forced into the back of the police vehicle.

“We understand that they were driven to this scene and then they were executed,” he said.

According to a police source with knowledge of the incident, who could not be named as he is not authorised to speak to the media, the female officer had been found away from the abandoned police vehicle, stripped to her underwear.

“She had been shot several times and was in a critical condition. Her uniform had been stolen as well as her state issue firearm. The other officer was found nearby. His gun was also taken,” he said.

Police forensic technicians had cordoned off the scene to protect evidence from a large crowd that had gathered.

They could be seen combing through the vehicle wearing full body protection suits.

No arrests have yet been made.
