Shortly after 11:00 on Wednesday 7 February 2018, Marshall Security Umhlanga UIP Guarding was informed of a hijacking which had just occurred in Lighthouse Road in Umhlanga Rocks.

Reports from the scene alleged that whilst a female driver was stationary on the popular road, she was approached by two male suspects armed with handguns. The men ordered her into the back seat of her vehicle before assaulting her with the butt of a firearm and making off with the vehicle at high speed towards Durban.

Armed Reaction officers were immediately dispatched to the M4 Ruth First Highway, where the vehicle was found abandoned, having suffered a blowout and come to a stop on the embankment adjacent to the roadway. The victim was found on scene severely traumatized.

Information received was that the suspects alighted from the vehicle following the crash, fleeing on foot into nearby bushes, taking with them a bag containing a large amount of money.

With the assistance of the South African Police Services and Metro Police K9 units, an extensive search of the area was conducted however the suspects managed to evade arrest. The victim was assessed on scene by Crisis Medical Emergency Medical Services, however, she refused further hospital treatment.

The scene was secured and handed over to the SAPS for further investigation and processing.
