An Intelligence driven operation was conducted in the Umkhanyakude area in the Northern part of KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend to clamp down on cross border crimes and the hijacking of vehicles in the area.
The operations was conducted by Public Order Policing Unit, Tactical Response Team and South African National Defence Force.
On Saturday, 3 December 2016 these members deployed in the area followed up information about ammunition kept in a house at Emanguzi area. The members proceeded to the identified house where they met a 44-year-old woman.
The house was searched and 215 live rounds of ammunition were found. When the woman was questioned about the ammunition, she said she got these ammunition from Mozambique and sell them for a living.
The suspect was immediately arrested for possession of ammunition without a license. She is expected to appear today in the Emanguzi Magistrate’s Court today.
