An intelligence driven operation was conducted at Newcastle area by Newcastle Vispol, K9 Unit and Crime Intelligence members which yielded positive results. On 25 March 2019, police officers were conducting their crime prevention operations at Newcastle Central Business District when they reacted to information about a woman selling drugs in the area.

The police officers followed up information that led them to Scott Street in Newcastle where they identified the suspect. She was approached and searched. The police officers found drugs such as CAT, heroin and crystal meth with the street value of R80 000 in her possession.

The suspect was further found in possession of R42 000 cash which is suspected to be the proceeds of drugs. She was immediately arrested and charged with possession of drugs. It is suspected that the suspect was on her way to deliver these drugs to her regular customers. She is expected to appear in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court facing a charge of possession of drugs.

In another operation at Margate area in the South Coast, the Port Shepstone police officers arrested a 27 year old man for possession of drugs with a street value of R6 520. The suspect was arrested at the Margate taxi rank where he was found in possession of 74 mandrax tablets and 94 heroin capsules.

The arrested suspect appeared in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court and the case was remanded until 21 June 2019 for further investigation.

The suspect was granted R5 000 bail.
