A 63 year old female died while waiting in line for the Covid-19 vaccine rollout at the Tongaat Sports Stadium on Victoria Avenue in Tongaat Central, KZN on Tuesday afternoon 22 June 2021.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call from family of the woman at approximately 15:02 requesting assistance at the vaccination centre. RUSA Medics were dispatched to the scene and on arrival found the female in the backseat of a green Volvo. She was declared deceased upon assessment.
According to medical staff at the vaccination centre, the female went into respiratory distress prior to receiving her vaccination.
Doctors attempted to stabilise the Lotusville, Verulam resident, however her condition deteriorated rapidly.
Her family then opted to transport her to a medical facility and she was loaded into a car. They then contacted the RUSA Operations Center for assistance when they realised that she became unresponsive.
Her family informed Medics that the female had not received her vaccination prior to her death.
