A 28 year old woman was raped and robbed by an unknown suspect on the corner of George Sewpersad Road and Moss Street in Verulam on Tuesday night 19 February 2019.
At approximately 20:39 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the intersection after the victim sought assistance from a passerby.
Upon arrival the victim explained that she is a resident of Zwelisha. She proceeded to the Verulam CBD to do shopping and lost track of time. She then decided to walk to her friend’s house in Mdalasini in Everest Heights, Verulam where she would spend the night.
While on her way she was accosted by an unknown male who offered to walk with her.
As they passed a bush on George Sewpersad Road he convinced her that there was a short through the dense vegetation when she followed him. He then raped the victim before he robbed her off her cellphone. He then fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. The only description the victim could provide of the suspect was that he was dressed in black pants and Adidas takkies.
Reaction Officers conducted an extensive search for the suspect however he still remains at large.
