Woman 28 allegedly raped, murdered, dumped in silo

MURDER – On 14 May 2016, at approximately 10:20, the body of Nqobile Mabaso (28) was discovered by her father in an old unused silo on the Farm, Kwa-Harry in Balgowan, Nottingham Road.

It is suspected that she was raped then murdered and her body was thrown into the silo on the farm. Her father was informed of a blood trail outside of the house and when following it, he made the gruesome discovery.

At first, he thought it was only a body but then realised it was his daughter by identifying her by the socks she was wearing.

Her body was in the silo and the head was covered by a piece of her dress and jersey.

The members of the Search and Rescue came and assisted to recover the body. The deceased sustained an open wound at the back of the head and marks on her body as she was dragged on the ground.

Her cellphone was also missing.

The deceased was last seen on the farm alive by the farm manager at about 21:30. A case of murder was opened at Nottingham Road SAPS for investigation.

A 25-year-old suspect was arrested and was found in possession of the victim’s cellphone.

He appeared in the Magistrates’ Court on 16 May 2016 and he was remanded in custody until 23 May 2016.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded police on apprehending the suspect. “We will make sure that the accused is prosecuted for his crimes so that he can spend his life in prison,” she said.
