Westville resident survives hail of bullets from gunmen

A gang of armed robbers opened fire on a Westville resident and left him injured and bleeding on his property in the early hours of yesterday.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the Protea Place resident’s barking dogs awoke him at around 1.55am. “He went outside to investigate and when he got to the back of the property leading to the swimming pool area, an unknown number of suspects fired several shots at him.”

“A bullet hit him in the groin and a second bullet hit him in the thigh and exited, fracturing his femur. Rescue Care Paramedics attended the scene and stabilized him before transporting him to hospital for further treatment,” Mathios said.

Westville SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

Mathios advised residents not to go out and investigate any suspicious noises on their properties at night, but to rather alert their security company. “If you suspect that there may be an intruder on your property, press your panic button and an armed response officer will be dispatched to investigate. Rather lock yourself and family in a ‘safe room’ and let the trained officer handle the situation,” Mathios said.

This incident occurred only days after three Westville homes were reported to have been hit by an armed, balaclava-clad gang within 45 minutes.
