The exhaustive investigation into criminality at Wentworth by detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Unit, led to the arrest of a police officer stationed at Wentworth SAPS.

The suspect was arrested on the morning of 18 September 2020, by police officers from the Provincial Organised Crime Unit as well as the National Intervention Unit, following a lengthy investigation by the team.

He was arrested on a conspiracy to commit murder case that is currently at court. The Warrant Officer (49) appeared before the Durban Magistrates Court and was remanded into custody until 23 September 2020. He will now join his five co-accused who were arrested last month.

The Acting KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thulani Gonya welcomed the latest arrest. “We are very pleased with the steady progress of the investigations and this is being supported by the community who are coming forward with concrete information that is aiding the investigations,” he said.
