A multi-disciplinary operation was conducted on 21 July 2021, at midday in Wentworth. The aim of the operation was to eradicate the proliferation of illegal firearms in the area. Innocent people are losing their lives and some are left with injuries due to gang shootings.

The team acted on information and they proceeded to Silvertree Road in Wentworth where a 21-year-old suspect was found in unlawful possession of a firearm. He was found in possession of a pistol with six rounds of ammunition and was placed under arrest.

Investigations revealed that the firearm was stolen from a vehicle that was parked on Isaiah Ntshangase Road near the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 30 April 2021.

The suspect will be profiled to check if he is linked to cases that were committed in Wentworth and surrounding areas. The recovered firearm will be taken to ballistic tests to determine if it was used in any of the serious and violent crimes in the province and in the country.

The arrested suspect is appearing before the Durban Magistrates’ Court today.
