On 10 April 2018, a multi-disciplinary operation was conducted at Esikhaleni area following information about suspects in possession of illegal firearms. The members went to a renting house at Esikhaleni area where they searched it and found three suspects in possession of three unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Cell Phones suspected to be taken during house robberies were also found in the house. On further investigation, it appeared that the suspects were wanted for a number of house and business robberies in and around Esikhaleni and Richards Bay area.

All three suspects, aged between 19 and 32 years, were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They will appear in the Esikhaleni Magistrate Court.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Bheki Langa praised the members for their hard work that lead to the arrest of the suspects. “Our detective members and Crime Intelligence unit will work around the clock to check if these suspects are not wanted for other crimes in the province. I also encouraged the community members to always work together with the police in the fight against crime by providing valuable information about criminal activities in their areas. Let us not hide criminals but let’s expose them to the police. The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes,” he said.
