On 15 April 2020, at 21:00, Umkomaas police officers were patrolling the Umnini and surrounding areas in Umkomaas when they noticed an abandoned house which had its lights on.

They proceeded to the said house to investigate. A search was conducted and 39-year-old man was found in possession of an unlicensed revolver with seven rounds of ammunition. Suspected stolen goods such as cellphones; TV set; speakers; bicycle and other items were recovered in the suspect’s possession.

He was placed under arrest for possession of suspected stolen property as well as illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The suspect was positively linked to a burglary case committed on 27 December 2019, where a house was broken into and three bicycles and other items were stolen. He appeared at the Umbumbulu Magistrates Court on 16 April 2020, and was remanded in custody until 21 April 2020 for a formal bail application.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula praised the police officers for being vigilant and arresting the wanted criminal.
