A joint operation conducted by the EThekwini Outer North Crime Intelligence in conjunction with the Verulam detectives and the KwaDukuza Task Team in search of wanted business robbery suspects in the Verulam policing precinct yielded positive results.

Three suspects aged between 25 and 31 were arrested. The suspects are expected to appear at the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court today facing possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition charges.

On the night of 20 August 2020, a joint operation aimed at tracing suspects who were terrorising businesses in the Verulam area was conducted. The information led police officers to Lindelani in KwaDukuza where two men aged 25 and 27 were arrested. On further investigation, police were led to another house in the same area where a 31-year-old man was arrested.

Four firearms including a shotgun and 18 rounds of ammunition was recovered from the suspects. The serial numbers of all the firearms were filed off. The suspects were taken to the KwaDukuza police station and detained.

They were also linked to a business robbery that was committed last month in the Verulam area. The firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing and the suspects will be profiled to ascertain whether they are linked to other robberies committed in the Verulam and surrounding areas.

The suspects will join their co-accused aged 18 and 29 who were arrested on 19 August 2020, for business robbery.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Jula praised the detectives for the arrest and the recovery of the firearms.
