Wanted armed robber busted by response officer after stabbing victim

Excellent observation skills by a Blue Security armed response officer resulted in the successful apprehension of a suspect who was wanted for armed robbery and attempted murder on Wednesday.

“One of our armed response officers was patrolling near Mitchell Park on Wednesday morning when he was flagged down by members of the public who told him of an attack on a pedestrian,”  Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios, said.

On further investigation the patrolling officer found a man bleeding profusely from a serious head wound. The injured man was able to tell the officer that he had been the victim of a robbery. “The injured man said that when he retaliated to being attacked he was stabbed once on the right side of the head. The attacker then fled in the direction of Florida Road,” Mathios explained.

After summonsing SAPS and an ambulance, and with a description of the suspect, the officer set off towards Florida Road in search of the alleged attacker. While driving along Currie Road he saw a man fitting the description of the suspect. Questioning and closer inspection revealed that the suspect was also injured, and in possession of a blood-stained weapon. He had allegedly sustained the injury during the attack.

The suspect was positively identified by the victim and handed over to SAPS for further questioning. Provincial paramedics attended to the robbery victim’s injuries. “Our officer’s excellent observation skills and swift reaction after the incident played an important part in the suspect’s arrest,” Mathios said.

“The accurate description given by the victim was also instrumental in locating the suspect. Should one ever be involved in a criminal incident, it is important to try and remember as much information as possible so as to help in investigations and possible arrests,” he added.
